Flash HD Asset Gallery

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011

I am delighted to present the initial release of the new Flash HD Asset Gallery application, which features simplistic, non-intrusive, user-friendly navigation, and lots of free space for the visual HD content.

About

The Flash HD Asset Gallery can display photos, as well as other flash content, or mix of the two.

The technology

The Flash HD Asset Gallery has been optimized for display of high resolution assets, by using an asset tiling feature to tile the source image into multiple images, which are further funelled through smart masking, that displays only those images on screen, which are currently visible, saving CPU and memory resources.

Mouse and Keyboard interactivity support

The Flash HD Asset Gallery controls include mouse and keyboard support, to increase user-friendliness by bridging the gap between the online-based and desktop application. Also, it features flash fullscreen mode, which strives to furthermore reduce the aforementioned limitation, and is recommended for the best viewing experience.

Future plans / improvements

This is an alpha version. Further plans are to include smart preloading, which enables the Flash HD Asset Gallery application to load multiple assets on the background while the user previews the current photo, so that next asset is instantly available without waiting, and priority preloading, which calculates highest probability of which photo that will be. Also, another feature will be dynamic scaling, which will allow assets to be stretched, cropped or to fit the current view area. Yet another feature is to enable the Gallery to operate as Slideshow, which animates the assets automatically using various transition effects. Also there is a plan to add thumbnails support which, although reducing free screenspace, will provide better visual feedback for the user (and while this is in place, ill consider using support classes like FZip, to further reduce the download speeds). Another great must-have feature that comes to mind is SWFAddress support, which allows for direct teleportation right onto a specific image, bookmarking and browser buttons to work with the app. Also flash cookies known as SharedObjects will be supported.

Please feel free to leave comments and suggestions, to make this application even better!
